Scott's Sacred Cow Soliloquy: There are 'Sacred Cows' in the world that no one better speak against, or else... In the '60's, the Establishment was horrified as thousands of college students protested sending their friends to Viet Nam to be physically and emotionally scarred for life. The vets when they returned were not welcomed back as heroes. The youth saw the war as it was: US Imperialism. In the 70's and 80's, the US tried overt and covert regime changes as the CIA went to work in Central and South America. Next the establishment used the fantasy of two planes knocking over 4 skyscrapers to impose a new order. And our brave men and women went into Iraq and Afghanistan and Yemen and Somalia and Libya and ... It created this bulkhead mentality that everyone outside North America wanted in. People want a better life. They usually don't migrate in huge numbers unless someone (I'm looking at you...) drops 30,000 bombs on them. There are 127 MILLION Mexicans. Do you think you could keep them out if they really wanted to get in? Costa Rica has no army and so far they have done fine. Of course, there is a huge difference between CR and USA, but I wanted to point out that not all countries are armed to the teeth... Somehow, we have been brainwashed into equating the Freedom we have in the USA, Canada, Europe and elsewhere as a result of drones targeting children in Pakistan, bombs dropped on hospitals in Yemen, WMD in Iraq being dismantled (They are still looking aren’t they?). It is beyond ludicrous for me to imagine that occupying Afghanistan results in a safer USA. Those guys don’t want to leave and come here. They want the US army to leave while they stay there. And let me put an exclamation point on it with a friendly reminder that the bin Laden’s were Saudi, best friends with the Bush’s, and closer than close with Saudi royalty. The Chicago Tribune says 4 people were shot dead and 8 wounded Friday night. Just think if all those smart, young military men were back in the USA putting their minds to work on turning Detroit and Chicago into the next Medellin of the world, instead of blowing up $20 tents with $37,000 missiles. Your freedoms are under attack from within, America.

Scott's Soliloquy: It's lazy Sunday morning. I read. I thought about stuff. I am grateful to all my 'active' Facebook friends. They seem to post thought provoking stuff, and I often have fun with our interactions, even if it is just seeing the laughing emoticon, so I know I put a smile on a smile 10,000 miles away. Marc Mawhinney posted today about choosing between lots of money and free travel. I started thinking about being home and deep down, I don't really want to go, certainly not to stay long term. As I was thinking about the choice, Marc put out, I felt deeply that there were so many places I deeply desire to go to and many places that I visited in the past 18 months that I desire to return to. I have a few people asking me about traveling long term. Fear and limiting beliefs hold them back. Let me share a limiting belief I have and how I went thru the limiting belief to the other side, by actually doing what my limiting belief was. :) Most people teach that you should change your limiting beliefs. In my case, I just did it. When I started traveling I heard about a site called Trusted House Sitters where you can apply to look after someone’s home while they go away on vacation or a trip. I was in Europe and applied about 30 times. Had one response in South Africa who decided to go with someone else. How disappointing... As I analyzed the results, I realized I did not have a reputation. I was new on the site. No reviews. People do not just leave their homes to anyone. The nightmare, of course, is coming home and finding the house wrecked. My conclusion then was that I should have done 5 or 6 short house sits in my home town. Then with a good reputation, applied for housesits everywhere I wanted to go. Thus for a year and a half, I used AirBNB, Booking and Workaway volunteer opportunities to supply my accommodations. Now that I am returning home, I applied for some house sits. And to my surprise, I have three confirmed and another two pending. One rejection, because a family member volunteered to look after their house, but they want to keep in touch for the next trip. So my belief that I had to house sit at home first came true. But, I think, this is one of those cases where the facts can build a case that supports your belief, and they can just as easily build a different case that had nothing to do with my beliefs. On AirBNB and Workaway, hosts can leave feedback on their guests (in other words, me!). Both sites now have 18 months of glowing reviews from my stays. When I applied on Trusted House Sitters, I mentioned that I was new to the site and to refer to AirBNB and Workaway for my reviews and left links. I leveraged what I did in those sites to get what I wanted in another. I also think that because I believed I could get house sits in my hometown and nearby, I had far more confidence than I did 18 months earlier and that came out in my applications. I am excited about my future travels because I will have a third arrow in my travel quiver that adds spice to my journeys. Summary: 1) Scott’s limiting belief: Has to successfully apply for House Sits in Vancouver before he can apply elsewhere. 2) Gets 3 house sits easily. 3) Now thinks he can get them anywhere. 4) Never occurred to him to apply elsewhere before he got the hometown house sits… I am not saying my Belief was correct. Only that it controlled subconsciously my actions. now that it has come true, it is no longer limiting. If you have limiting beliefs in your life, can you make it come true and is that the way to the other side and converting it from being limiting to being life expanding?

There is a constant battle, eternal war, actually, going on for your mind and soul. And it isn’t for ‘good’ or ‘bad’, right or wrong. It is for Love or hate. We are losing it. If you think a Trump is [insert all the awfullest things you can think a human being can be], and while you might be right, if this leads you to hating him, wanting him strung up and tortured, killed, etc., etc. then you are losing the war. If you are on the other side, and think the same but it is about Hillary or who ever you think represents the Left... Then you are losing the war. The war is not “out there”. It is deep inside you. If you hate those in another tribe, company, those with different shades of skin color, in another country, in another religion, [pick the irreconcilable difference]… You are losing the war for your soul. This does not mean you agree with those people. But here’s the thing you can disagree without Hate. Personally, if someone takes a knife and chops off the head of the sleeping passenger beside him. This happened a few years ago... I think the killer should face the death sentence. He lives... in prison. If he had received the death penalty, I would hope it was executed with Love, not Hatred. Love and Forgiveness, to me, do not mean there are no consequences. Only that inside your heart and Soul, your actions come from a loving place, not a place of anger, rage and hate.

I had some people talk recently with me about making courses. Here is a summary of what I do and my process. Please note: This all takes work, a willingness to grow as a teacher and speaker, patience (more on my part than yours actually), more patience (more on your part than mine actually), and desire to be of service to the world. Here it is: Hi, I do not take on clients. I take on partners and co-creators. Udemy has many advantages. It is not by itself often a "salary replacement", rather one leg of a marketing plan. It can be an excellent credibility builder, and a lead generator. Udemy has 20 million students. They sell their courses for $10-$15 so volume is the key. I have a three hour course creation process. Since we make only a few dollars per course, it makes little sense to create massive 12 hour courses. So I recommend a course very month or two of 60-90 minutes. Our tasks: Fill out my PDF (20 minutes) I review and set up the course on Udemy Record over Skype/hangouts/or via your video camera (2 hours) I direct as you record. Sometimes I am on camera with you. It all depends on how we want to build the course(s) My video editor polishes the lectures and uploads. I write all the copy for the course, make the course cover art. Submit to Udemy for approval I work on getting students, reviews and keep an eye on student questions. I split the course revenue 50-50. Upsells to your coaching program, software, etc. are negotiable. Your costs are: 1) $200 Admin fee 2) The video editor costs ($7 per hour). She usually costs about $250. I take a screenshot of her Upwork report and send it to you. I designed the system so that you have a minimum amount of time and energy tied up in the production so you can focus on what’s important: Being the expert. I have over 90 courses and over 147,000 students with over 3400 reviews (4.27 out of 5 stars).

There is a certain mindset that hides behind a facade of 'being good', that causes self destructive behaviours, almost unconsciously. I was doing courses with a group and the arrangement was not working. Their task was to bring me experts to make courses with. They brought a few and then dried up. We discussed ways to attract more experts, but nothing changed. They were also going to bring podcasters to my podcast platform. And really, the reason nothing happened was the revenue generated to each individual was too small. If was not worth the effort. In January, I ended the agreement, stating simply that nothing was happening. I wasn't going to change anything for those course we had made and if in the future they wanted to bring an expert we would discuss it on an individual basis. I received an "Okay, no problem" response. Last night I recorded a new course with one of the experts brought to me by the group. As we started, he mentioned there was something he wanted to tell me before we recorded. Evidently, the group had approached him about dropping me and working with them. Understand that the individuals knew each other very well for decades. Thus my immediate thought was, "Alright, I understand you want to work with your friend..." But I was wrong. My co-instructor told me that he had given his word to work with me and that was that. "I am a man of my word." I replied, that I was honouring the original agreement and the splits were in place for the group to get their share. This was the first thing I did when I set up the course weeks earlier.. This was true. Even though, we were no longer working together as we had been, there was a specific agreement between the three of us and I hadn't changed it. Now the actions of the group did not endear me to them. I was a bit disappointed. I felt they could have talked to me and we could continue to work together with my co-instructor, but perhaps from my message about terminating our agreement, they felt that was not an option. Then my co-instructor mentioned to me a bit more of the conversation. I don't want to get into detail. I want to respect the privacy of our talk. And to be clear, nothing in that conversation was mean or derogatory or had anything to do with me. It was about opportunities the group and my co-instructor could engage in. He had decided not to go forward with the ideas presented. But as he spoke, I could see why. And then I thought of an elegant solution that would have had him working with the group (possibly). Being the selfish, greedy guy that I am, I am keeping my solution to myself. LOL But what I think was, if they had acted in better faith, openness and honesty, they would have ended up with a potential project, doing what they are very good at, that could have been positioned in front of tens of thousands of entrepreneurs around the world. Instead they have nothing.

I replied, that I was honouring the original agreement and the splits were in place for the group to get their share. This was the first thing I did when I set up the course weeks earlier.. This was true. Even though, we were no longer working together as we had been, there was a specific agreement between the three of us and I hadn't changed it. Now the actions of the group did not endear me to them. I was a bit disappointed. I felt they could have talked to me and we could continue to work together with my co-instructor, but perhaps from my message about terminating our agreement, they felt that was not an option. Then my co-instructor mentioned to me a bit more of the conversation. I don't want to get into detail. I want to respect the privacy of our talk. And to be clear, nothing in that conversation was mean or derogatory or had anything to do with me. It was about opportunities the group and my co-instructor could engage in. He had decided not to go forward with the ideas presented. But as he spoke, I could see why. And then I thought of an elegant solution that would have had him working with the group (possibly). Being the selfish, greedy guy that I am, I am keeping my solution to myself. LOL But what I think was, if they had acted in better faith, openness and honesty, they would have ended up with a potential project, doing what they are very good at, that could have been positioned in front of tens of thousands of entrepreneurs around the world. Instead they have nothing.

This seems to be a bit of a theme today. A [Insert Profession Here] wrote: "[Insert Profession Here], what are we giving back to the world really? I understand working remotely but what good are we bringing to the table here?" (Condensed from Original Post) I suggest that your real question is: "[Insert Profession Here], what am I giving back to the world really?" My answer is "I have no idea what you are giving back to the world." I am of the opinion that we rarely know the impact we have as we walk the earth, regardless of whether we are 'nomads' or 'cubicle dwellers'. I spoke to a Kenyan mom of three daughters. She wants to be a successful singer. I talk with her about a project (that I ended up abandoning), to bring food and clothes, mattresses and books to orphans at a school. I forgot all about it. Then a couple weeks ago, I am told she has formed a group. They are looking at their stuff that they do not need and that would help the children. They are visiting the schools and recording the stories of the children and building a foundation to make a real difference in these youngsters' lives. They are raising awareness and making a difference. Who knows where they will be in 5 years? What even one of these wonderful children will bring to the world because they were loved and cherished, when no one cared. Because they had food in their tummy an da good night's sleep, will they bring about a change in the world? I hope so. I have many stories like that one. If you do not (which I feel is the case), make a change. Reach out to the local community. They will have lots for you to do. If I mis read your post and you think you are doing a lot and your fellow [Insert Profession Here] are not... Then be the candle in the dark that lights the way. It burns brightly but does not resent the trees that do not join it in flames to light the night. It knows the Redwoods have a different purpose... Much Love.
