Paton's Pondering Throughout history, when an individual stood up and disagreed with the King (or Queen or dictator), they were usually imprisoned, strung up on a tree or banished. Today, we think of a 'Free Press', 'Freedom of Speech' and all our Social Media 'freedoms to express ourselves', possibly truly believing we have the Right and the Privilege to express dissenting opinions about our political leaders. And we do as long as we are 'beyond their reach'. Don't talk pro-Palestine in Israel. Don't talk pro-Western Sahara in Morocco. Don't talk pro-Catalonia in Spain. Don't talk pro-Ireland in Belfast. Don't talk pro-Hong Kong in China. And of course you already knew... Don't talk pro-South Korea in North Korea. The reason, of course, which no one wants to admit or discuss, is that the 'Powers-that-be' are not interested in compromise or change. So why would they want/allow anyone to talk about it? That just makes it uncomfortable for everyone... This has been the status quo for millennia. What has been the result? Change comes. But it comes at a far higher price: War, conflict and death. Sweeping this $h*t under the rug doesn't work. In the 21st Century, do we really need to bomb people to get them to agree that we were right?
