Scott's Soliloquy: I met an American yesterday. He left the US 14 years ago. The last five years, he was moving around Europe in love with a lovely lady. Wherever she got a job, he went. One of my challenges in Europe is I can only stay for 3 months out of 6 in the Schengen Area. So my first question was, "How did you stay there so long?" His answer, "I am American". Now, before you paint him as some arrogant, stereotypical USAer, listen to the rest of his story. When he had overstayed his time by a couple weeks, he was on a French/German train and stopped by both the French and the German police. He thought he was doomed. He looked at them and said, "You aren't going to throw me off the train are you?" They looked at his passport. Looked at him. Gave him back his passport, and said, "No. You are an American. Stay as long as you want." He could not believe it. And he did. When he left Europe, months or years past the date he should have gone, no one batted an eye. Thye stamped his passport and wished him a Bon Voyage!
